Media Statement: Joint Statement Regarding University of Illinois Chicago Tentative SEIU Contract Agreement
Statement from Michael Amiridis, Chancellor, University of Illinois Chicago; Michael Zenn, CEO, University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics; and Dian Palmer, President, SEIU
The University of Illinois Chicago and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 73 have reached a tentative agreement on the terms of four-year contracts (2019-2023), ending a 10-day strike that began on September 14. SEIU Local 73 represents four bargaining units that includes 4,000 clerical, technical, service & maintenance, and professional employees across the Chicago campus, at the University of Illinois Hospital, and the regional campuses.
We are very pleased that we have been able to come to a tentative agreement and we believe it is in the best interests of both the SEIU employees and the University.
The tentative agreement was reached Wednesday, September 23, after several months and more than 50 sessions of extensive collective bargaining across the four bargaining units.
Details of the agreement will be shared with the SEIU membership at ratification voting meetings to be conducted by the union next week. Pending ratification, specific contract terms will be available for public release.
We look forward to continuing to work together.
