Update: SEIU Clerical Negotiation Session 9
August 27, 2020
The University and SEIU met for a full day of bargaining. This is the third session with federal mediator Stephen George. The University began the session by tendering a comprehensive counterproposal on non-economic issues. Without signing any TAs, the Union agreed to incorporate many of the non-economic Articles bargained for during the Technical and/or Service Unit negotiations. There are still non-economic issues open in Article VII (Work Schedule and Hours of Work), Article XV (Dues Deduction) and a new proposal that would require the University to negotiate with SEIU before entering into sub-contracting or other third-party agreements. After the non-economic discussion, the union presented a revised wage and economic model for a potential 3, 4 or 5-year agreement. The University countered with a 5-year contract proposal but reserved responses to the Union’s remaining economic proposals.
