Update: SEIU Professional Negotiation Session 13
September 3, 2020
The University and SEIU met for a full day of bargaining; this is the second meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2nd session with Federal mediator Stephen George. Federal mediator Rosa Tiscareno joined us for the first time. This was also the first meeting with UIC’s new lead negotiator. UIC began the session by presenting noneconomic proposals for Articles 3, 4, 7, 16, 17, 20, 21. The parties agreed and finalized Articles 4 (University Rights), Article 7 (Vacation), Article 16 (Discipline), Article 17 (Grievance Procedure), Article 20 (Dues Deduction) and Article 21 (No Strike-No Lockout). The only noneconomic Article open is Article 3. The union also presented its 5 year economic model which includes 5% across-the-board annual wage increases, newly created annual seniority “step” increases as well as the expansion of existing and creation of new pay differentials and premiums. UIC then presented its wage proposal of 5 years
(CWP each year) but declined to respond to the rest of SEIU’s economic model.
