Update: SEIU Professional Negotiation Session 24

UIC and SEIU Local 73 met for a half day of bargaining. The session ended approximately at 2:30 p.m. This was the seventh session with mediator Healy. The session began with the union’s presenting its last proposal on holiday coverage. Then, the parties moved to UIC’s economic proposal.

UIC began by accepting a four-year contract instead of the five-year contract that it had previously proposed. UIC then offered an across-the-board increase of 4% for year 1 of the contract and campus wage for years 2, 3 and 4. The major area of contention was UIC’s rejection of the union’s request to put professionals on salary scale with anniversary step increases. During a sidebar discussion, the union focused on a cash payment to recognize longevity, which UIC will consider.

The union has not changed its proposal of 5% for each of four years of the contract along with a new wage scale and various increases in differentials.
