Update: SEIU Professional Session 16

September 18, 2020

The University and SEIU met for a half day of bargaining. The session ended approximately at 2:00 pm. This is the fifth session with Federal mediator Stephen George.

SEIU began the session by presenting economic proposals, UIC then presented a comprehensive non-economic proposal that addressed all remaining open issues. The parties resolved all the remaining non-economic issues and UIC has requested that the union sign execute TAs. The parties used much of the remaining session to discuss the bases for their economic proposals.

SEIU economic proposal sits at a 4 year term (4.0% market analysis/adjustment, 1.5%, 2.5%, 2.5%) plus step increases at 3% increments. SEIU also seeks newly created annual “step” increases for all classifications as well as new pay differentials and premiums. UIC countered last at CWP (2%), CWP (currently 0%), 1.5% or CWP, 1.5% or CWP. SEIU did not present a counteroffer and informed UIC that the strike would continue.

  • Next Session: Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
