Update: SEIU Service and Maintenance Negotiation Session 8

The University and SEIU met for a half day of bargaining. The session ended approximately 4:30pm. This is the fifth session with Federal mediator Stephen George. UIC began the session by presenting its first economic counterproposals, after that the parties exchanged 5, then 4 year term proposals. SEIU currently sits at 4.25% across the board wage increases each of 4 years, plus step increases at 3% increments. UIC’s last proposal sits at CWP (2%), CWP (currently 0%), 1% or CWP, 1% or CWP, 1.25% or CWP and if CWP is less than 1% then a wage reopener. SEIU also seeks newly created annual “step” increases as well as the expansion of existing and creation of new pay differentials and premiums. The parties will continue to negotiate.
