Update: SEIU Technical Negotiation Session 21

UIC and SEIU Local 73 met for six hours of bargaining.  The session ended approximately at 3:30 p.m.  This was the eighth session with mediator Healy.  The session began with UIC presenting a new wage scale to SEIU.  The scale contained:

  • 15% adjustment to each minimum,
  • 1.5% interval between steps,
  • 3.75% grade progressions and
  • 20 steps.

The union responded positively to the proposal.  During caucus UIC recognized that the presented chart did not increase all of the minimums by 15%.  The union raised the issue of the calculations after caucus, to which UIC responded that it would review them.  The parties also discussed the union’s proposal to expand float pay.  The union also presented a proposal for the emergency department techs to receive a premium based on overutilization.

The next technical bargaining session is April 15, 2024.
